I went to Home Depot and bought a 5" cap that covers the FEC exhaust pipe for anti critter duty when not in use. Fits FEC exhaust pipe well.

I have decided that both at home on the deck and at comps I want a stack to bring the smoke to just above the height of the cooker. Smoke in area in the middle of turn in time on a hot no wind day won't work for me.

With my FEC came a fancy "high wind cap" that is more intricate than the simple diffusers I see in some pics.

I went to Home Depot and picked up a 24" 5" pipe onto which both my high wind and my end caps fit.

I also bought a 5" elbow and a couple clamps but the elbow does not fit in the FEC hole as is. I see pics of people with aluminum and ss elbows but no where do I read and detailed talk my fellow owners are making them fit.

Can anyone tell what they are using or show a pic of how they are making their 5" elbows fit?

Thanks in advance

I know what you are talking about. I bought 2 elbows from Home Depot, one fit tight and the other would not go on at all. On mine, I have them fit over the outside of the FEC vent. Elbows will "stretch" a bit and make a very tight fit, which is good. The more you force it on there and once it is there, vigorously wiggle it around and that may help. I don't have to use clamps.

I actually got a VacuStack Cap with my FEC

the Stack and the pipe for the Iowa 80 elbow and I assume the same if I add the Iowa 80 or comparable 24" pipe are the exact same diameter and butt up the same.

Please give all you can on the lape joint that you are using...I it exactly what I need.

Thanks
Basic Patrick I sent you a PM.
The lap joint (5" dia. x 3" wide) is perfect for joining the chrome elbow(Peterbilt 5"dia.w/flare x 9" long to the VacuStack. I bought the SS joint because the cap is SS and it was only $1 more. I used high heat foil HVAC tape to tape the two pipes together prior to applying the clamp to prevent liquid from running down the pipe. Looks great/works great!
