I looked up Beechwood online and found Budweiser uses Beechwood in one of their barbecue sauces. If Budweiser uses beechwood to add smoke flavor to their BBQ sauce, then it should be OK for smoking. Try it on a piece of chicken or pork butt and see how it tastes.


BBQ is scarce in Maine, but there is a place in Monson, Maine that uses only local woods, including beech. I have eaten there several times and their Q is righteous!

A friend of mine is saving some beech from his woodpile for me to try.

Sugar maple is also good wood for smoking and Red Oak is smooth.
