My SM-25 arrived in the middle of the week, was finally able to set it up Friday after work. I got the stand only because I am not as skilled as many members in this forum. I originally used the screws that came with the stand as legs before I realized my error that they were to connect the smoker to the stand. So I used the wheels for the smoker as legs for the stand that way I could use them to level my set up. Not bad thinking if I do say so myself. I had zero problems seasoning the unit, it started to smoke wright away. I only ran it for about 2.5 hours for threat of rain. I moved my patio umbrella next to the smoker just in case. I hope to do a pork butt this weekend for family and friends. Attached is my G-rated porn of my setup, I live in a townhome so space is limited. You can see where my patio ends. By law we have to have gas grills 15 feet from the house so I thought it just natural to set the smoker next to the Webber. I hope to soon be driving my neighbors crazy. P.S I grilled a pizza on the Webber using a pizza stone made for grills (stand high heat), it was fun and great tasting too.

Here is a little help with adding pictures, when I tried to load the picture the first time it was too large. Go to this web site http://www.resizemypicture.com/ it’s free. You can resize your picture. My first picture was over 600kb, cookshack has a 300kb limit. I selected this second option it brought my picture down to 110kb.

It is under an umbrella, but if it raining hard I just won’t use it. I have no shed or coverer porch. There are other members that have it sitting outside. I started my first smoke last night and there was a chance of rain so I have the umbrella up all night but it never rained. I will not jeopardize my equipment or the safety of my house. If I really want to use the smoker I also have a 10x10 pop-up tent that I can through up real quick that will sit over both the smoker and the grill.
It seems to be just right for me. I don’t see myself cooking any more that the 25lb limit of the 25. I just completed my first smoke yesterday. Everything went well with just a couple of glitches. I didn’t put enough rub on the meat (learning curve) and for some reason the wood didn’t burn, I got some smoke, so looking at the coils to maybe bend them up just a tad. After I took the meat out wrapped and put in the cooler to keep warm I put my poppers in to smoke, they took about an hour and a half. Everything was excellent even though the meat was under seasoned but it was dripping moist and pulled apart very easily. Overall it was an excellent first meal.

P.S I do have the cover to protect the smoker when not using it.
Like most products that you buy, the max. limit is on the light side...unless it is chickens! So don't be afraid of loading it heavy, cause it WILL do the job and a fine job.

Unless your just afraid of melting in the rain, keep the controller and top hole dry, but don't let the rain or snow mess up a day of smoking. Life is just too short for that.

My first lesson on PBs was the same as your's on the rub, oh well! Good notes have helped and a little experience...so keep having FUN!
Karla congratulations on the new smoker and welcome to the forum. As your addiction grows you may find, as many of us have found, fair weather smoking just has too many limitations.
There are as many ways to smoke meat as there are to keep the smoker dry. An umbrella or a pop up tent are examples that work. I have a cheap mortar mixing tub I soak my grates in for easier clean up. If it looks like rain I set a brick on top of the smoker just above the door, one end of the tub sets on my smoker’s control panel and the other on the brick. If its windy I put a brick inside the tub.
Life is too short to limit yourself.

Sparky, it doesn’t seem to matter which smoker you start out with. With many of us as the addiction grows the desire to obtain the next size smoker also grows. I got by just fine for many years with a 009, but I just had to have a 066.

Need has nothing to do with it. Want is everything!
