Does the outside of the smokette remain cool to the touch?
I'm curious about exposure to kiddies and the pups.

It is warm, but not hot enough to burn, or even hurt.

I have a Digital Thermo Timer at least that is what it says on the top. It has a tempature probe with a 3 foot cable. If I put it on top of a SM009 or SM055 is there any chance of it getting to hot and warping or melting?

It's either 800 or 1000 degree insulation. The stainless will get hot from any sunshine (like all stainless) but not from the internal temp.

I attach mine to the upper right top of the side, which faces north so I can see it out my kitchen window. It does not get too hot.
I agree the stainless top might get too hot with the sun shining on it, but not from the heat inside.
