OK, first brisket done. Good results. I give myself a B+ but more on that when I can upload photos later.

I guess I missed the part where you put foil down to minimize cleanup. My question is why clean up at all. All of my previous smokers only got better as the funk built up. What happens if you don't use foil each time and just do a quick wipe of all large fragments after each smoke? Does anyone out there do this?

you could do a scrape and wipe clean after each smoke but I think you'll find it much easier in the long run to use the foil, and just pull it out, toss it and replace it. Get one of those big restaurant rolls that will last a long time and also you'll have plenty of foil for wrapping and resting after the smoke.
