iam getting a smokette in a day or two and i live in a condo upstairs. the back deck is all wood so i would like to know if i can put the smoker on the deck or would have to put down bricks or something frist. thanks jeff
You don't need to put down anything due to fire risk. However, I would recommend putting something down in case you spill any grease out of the drip pan.
I have found that the area in front of the CS gets some drips, too. Some come off the door and others come from the meat as it is put into or pulled out of the CS.
I have my CS in a wooden workbench with wood all around it and a hole on the top for smoke to exit. Temps do not cause a a safety problem in my setup, I can't imagine that there would be a problem with the wood below the CS being in danger.
I to use the cheap foil pans, I have my CS setting on a small outdoor plastic table. I have had no problems so far, other than slightly questionable stability.
While its getting late in the year...If you have a Lowe's or a Home-Depot they both sell a plastic floor mat made for Gas/Charcoal grills. You can easily use one of these to protect against drippings and it cleans up real easy.
Also, I have my Smokette on top of a wood cart I built and no worries to date.
I would like to thank you all for your feed backs i think i will try the mat at home depot iam there all the time. Iam getting the smoker today and i cant wait and also i know the golden rule just go slow. thanks again jeff
