Hi all
Seriously considering purchasing the stainless version of the smokette. Can someone tell me. if it is built to withstand the four seasons (Northeast USA) on an unprotected deck when not in use?. I know they sell covers but it has been my experience that covers can be worse than no protection as they trap moisture. I'm sure I'll have more questions but this is a good start. Thanks in advance

Lots of folks have a Smokette outside in the weather year round, including myself. I have the cover also and it breathes and has never trapped moisture under it. I use mine in the rain, sleet, and snow, on an unprotected deck, as you say. I just attach my probe readout to the side and use a large sheet pan to cover the thermostat, vent hole, and readout all at once. No problems. It is insulated very well and so does not skip a beat regardless of how cold.

If you are not near salt water you really don't need the SS 009. If you are interested in the stand/cart, which is ideal, it only comes in black, so the 008 looks good on it and the 009 looks out of place on it. Also, the 008 has a SS top and insides anyway.

Hope this helps. Get one for Christmas!

Cool
Since all you need to protect is the thermostat and keep from water getting in the top vent hole the smokette is worthy of redneck protection.

Just the other day it started raining and blowing wind, I protected my smokette with............a wheel barrow turned upside down and leaned against the back. Big Grin
I had two different versions of CS, both with covers and they stayed outside. Never a problem with moisture.

These smokers with design, steel and superior insulation will work will in any climate. You won't have a problem of moisture building up because the covers are great AND because you CAN and WILL use it during the winter, keep that in mind Big Grin
I live in Missouri and keep my 008 out on my deck year round. I build a little shed that is slightly bigger than my 008 with a hole in the back corner for the cord and a hole in the top to allow the smoke out. The hole in the top has a curved metal conduit so that rain doesn't get inside of the box. I leave my 008 in the shed even when cooking. Works great and keeps the elements away from the electronics.
