Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and also new to the CS. I just received the SM25 today. I've been seasoning the thing since noon and have notice a (perceived) problem. I set the temp control to 200 degrees, per the seasoning instructions. The temp started to heat up and continued upwards until I pushed the down temp button. It the started cooling down back to the desired setting. I restarted the seasoning process again at 225 degrees, and it repeated the same problem until I caught it at 295 and backed it down to 225. Is this normal? Should I have to stop the heating process when I reach my desired temp?

Thanks for the help all. I'm looking forward to a weekend of smokin.

It is best to set the temp and wait for the smoker to do its job. It will average out to the correct temp.

If after a couple hours it is still running HI then contact CS during the day and they are more than happy to help adress any issues.

Keep in mind that a new smoker will take a little time to season and as its walls become more seasoned it will hold temps a little better.

Get ya a big PB and it will help the seasoning process. Have FUN with your new smoker.
Dave,

By design it goes high to start the wood burning.

Do NOT try to chase the temp yourself. Do what cal said, set it, let it run and let it stabilize itself and see how it compares to your settings.

At most, you could open the door to dump some of the high heat, but don't adjust the controls.
I just received a new SM025 and had a similar issue. I called in and got some info that would be very handy in the manual.

The Elite series has logic programmed into it that causes it to power the element for 20 minutes when first powered on. After that it runs based on the thermostat. This is what causes the initial temp to go well beyond what you might have programmed. I ran mine again this morning and that is exactly what happened.
