Yes the wood box is ment to be removed. To season the smoker put a couple chunk's of wood, came with the smoker,in the wood box slide back in close the door and set the temp. to 225 and let'er rip for about 4 hrs.. After the seasoning get yourself a BIG 'OL pork butt and throw it in . Don't forget to foil the top of the wood box and the bottom of the smoker to help catch grease. REMEMBER to POKE A HOLE in the BOTTOM FOIL or you'll end up with a BIG grease mess . Almost forgot, use some kind of pan to catch the grease dripping's under the smoker. Use a remote thermometer to watch your meat temp.. Good luck and let us know how thing's turn out..
