Finally got around to seasoning my new smokette this morning in preparation for doing some ribs later on. Followed seasoning advice - 4 oz. wood @ 225 for 4 hours. About an hour into the session, heard a loud followed by a 3-4 second hiss then followed by huge amount of smoke from the vent hole and upper door seams. Once this all subsided, smoke died down to almost nothing from the vent hole. Is this normal and to expected or is it a malfunction?

Saw mention of the same thing in the forums but no definitive explanations. Can anybody provide some insight into this situation? Thanks.
