As I understand it, the Smokin Tex used to be manufactured by Cookshack. For whatever reason there was a split, and the Smokin' Tex is now manufactured overseas. While based on the same design, or it may even be the exact same design, I seem to recall some expressing issues with the manufacturing quality of the Smokin' Tex. Also, from the posts I've read, most folks are willing to pay a bit more for the Cookshack, as the Cookshack comes with the much praised Cookshack Customer Service. A search of this forum with the words "Smokin' Tex" will probably reveal more.
I should note that I don't own a Smokin' Tex, and have never even seen a Smokin' Tex, and my post is based on my recollection of posts to this forum. And my memory isn't always great! If my facts are off, I'm sure someone will correct me!

I did some research and the only differants I could find if I read it right is the Tex model is about 1/2 bigger cooking area and it has more wattage.But it looks the same. I all so got a grill catalog and they had units in there that looked the same.
I "believe" that the Official Patents on the CS have expired, that's why the copy may be in business. And it's NOT made in the US.
Just do a search in the forum for Smokin Tex and you'll see other posts and comments about it. Just remember, you get what you pay for

There is no comparisonin my opinion on the quality of the product nor the professionalism of the Cookshack organization. I have dealt with them both as a contestant and as a customer and Cookshack excels in all aspects of customer service.
For the minor differences in pricing I always go for quality. And you will not lose in quality and service with Cookshack so go with Cookshack quality.
And to top it off...these are some of the nicest folks you will ever deal with!
