You have all convinced me to toss out the oak I cut off a pallet. They are not pine, they are hardwoods. Most likely oak as oak is the most common of the hardwoods, cheapest to use for items like pallets. I think I made a connection here for fruit wood. One of our customers has a tree cutting business and often has wood to get rid of. He cuts numerous cherry trees and gives all the wood away, or pays to have it hauled away! Most of the time he grinds up anything smaller than a 6 inch log. What a waste. He told me I could have all the firewood I needed if I took it from the job sites. If I had the time I would get a truck and start selling firewood! I just can't believe he has to pay someone to take cherry wood from him. Happy New Year to all. Dj
WELL, mainleydave
I have thought about it. But, do people buy wood for smokin from ebay. I was really thinking that if it comes to me cut properly so I don't have to buy a chainsaw, maybe I could offer it up to members for just the shipping costs. DO you think anyone would be interested? I can get small cardboard boxes for free, pack it up and ship it to you guys and gals if you all pay the postage. All just thoughts you know. No plans yet as I don't have my dirty little hands on any wood yet. Dj
Here we are almost a month past this "promise" to come up with cherry wood and I have nothing from this source. I kind of thought it wouldn't pan out. Just bought some from ebay so I don't have any more worries. plenty on the way.
BTW I did check into pallets. They are made from oak almost 100% of the time. Oak is the most prevalent (is that spelled right) hardwood in the USA.

Just for laughs, I thought I should confess, I make a statement that was told to me by a friend, about almost 100% of pallets are oak..... Today someone left one behind at our storage facility that I had to scrap out....ITS PINE!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh Well, sorry about the unintentional lie. Dj
Wouldn't that be a crazy twist?!?!
Doesn't matter, I don't mind paying for things I want. That way I'm not in debt to anyone. The surprize to me was this person moved out of our storage facility and left a huge mess piled up outside the store, I caught them at it(on tape), I CLEANED IT UP, disposed of everything at my expense and in return they "promised" me the favor of some cherry as they have a tree business and have more than they can handle. She told me they actually pay people to take the logs away!
I was brought up, Don't make a promise if you can't keep it!
No worries. Dj
