I have several pork shoulders to smoke for pulled pork. They are all about 7 lbs each and I want to know if they smoke better left whole, or should I cut them in half to smoke them?

Most people leave them whole.

7lb isn't a shoulder, that's really small.
usually when we've seen is bad labeling by the butcher, and at 7lb, it's probably a butt.

Remember, when folks talk about 1 1/2 hrs/lb,that is cooking an 8 lb butt.
Each bite may have to have that long to break down the collagen and render the fat.
Thus 1/2 lb pork steak can't use the math of 1.5hrs X 0.5 lbs=45 mins.
