I've seen a number of rub recipes that call for "Turbinado Sugar". Can anyone enlighten me?
Is it a Brand name or type of sugar?

Turbinado Sugar is made using 100% pure Hawaiian cane sugar from the initial pressing of the cane, allowing the natural molasses to remain in the crystals. The flavor is sweet and rich. The color is natural amber.
Does it have to be Hawaiian? Seems they have the same stuff from Florida sugar?

No its just what is called Raw sugar it is not processed all the way it has a lot of molasses still in it. You should be fine with what you can get locally
The brand that I could find around here is called "Sugar In The Raw". It is in a brownish box.

Sugar in the raw is what I used to use, and it only came in packets and I had to open the things up one by one, what a pain.
You can also check health food stores, they carry it in bulk.
At Walmart around here, it's in a bag, Golden Natural Turbinado Sugar in 2lb bags.
