Table Captains class?

For us uneducated BBQ folks, what the heck is a table captain??
Come on Cal, a little more definition please.

When judging competitions, their are 6 judges and a table captain. He is responsible for getting the 6 boxes to be judged and showing the boxes to each judge.

If a judge has a problem/question with a box about being legal, the captain gets the rep. to rule on it.

I guess you can say he is the MOTHER of the operation...LOL!

Cal, I think it is beneficial to take the table captain's class if you plan on being a TC. It is beneficial in that it teaches you the processes and duties of a TC and how to be the liason between the judges and the reps.

Why?

Personally if I go to a contest, I want to judge BBQ, not be a TC. I've done TC MANY times, but I only do it if they'll let me judge too, doing the dual road.

You don't usually get much testing as a TC, you might get left overs if you're lucky.

Being a TC might be a blessing considering some of the stuff I have tasted.

The team took,I believe,the second TC class tosupport the folks putting it on.It was the day before the Dillard cookoff.

We banked it as a little extra knowledge as to the procedures that might help a little in our cooking.

I rarely mention it,as I also prefer to sample the turnins to learn what other cooks are presenting.

I can also appreciate other folks taking the approach of not wanting to have to eat all the entries.
