Hello everyone. Happy Chinese New Year to you all. I'm heading to Clearwater Florida March 12th till the 20th. I've started scouting for the Phillies in Taiwan, that's why you haven't seen too much of me on the forum lately. Was wondering if anyone knows some good restaurants, and bbq supply shops in Tampa/ Clearwater? I'll be looking to find some spice suppliers, maybe a nice vacuum sealer, some wood chunks to bring home, also are there any cookshack dealers in this area?
Jack and Peggy, sorry won't have time it looks like to get to St. Augustine, I'll actually be working everyday there during spring training. Hopefully I'll be able to fit in some BBQ shopping time in the evenings.
I still continue to check the forum most days, just don't have the time to sit at the computer for long stretches like before. Want to say thanks again for all the input from everyone on so many topics. My smoker is well seasoned now, been doing mainly pork shoulders, and ribs. The pork shoulders are turning out pretty darn tasty. The ribs are getting close, still trying lots of your folks recipes and methods trying to come up with that "home run" that the Taiwanese really enjoy. Think its about time to start working on some chicken and seafood soon.
Once again thanks, and thanks in advance for any info regarding the Clearwater/Tampa area.
Take care all, Steve.

Ribdog may chime in,as that is his home base.

Our team will be cooking Q for the players ,celebrities, spouses, etc. at the Baseball Hall of Fame game there on 19/20 March.

It is for the Childrens hospital charity and we'll also be doing burger meals for the kids.

Look us up.

You may want to go down to the FEC forums and message him there.

He also really knows the area restaurant scene.
Bill I've sent you an E-mail.
Tom, thanks for the note. I'll post a message on the FEC forums for Ribdog. I'd love to see you guys in Clearwater at the Hall of Fame game. Is the game in Clearwater? I leave for Taiwan on the 20th, but I'll still be there Sat. on the 20th. I'd love to look you guys up, watch you in action, pick your brains, talk BBQ and of course sample some of your Q and help raise some money for the childrens hospital. If you can E-mail me the details on where you'll be at on the 19th and the times etc. it would be much appreciated.
Englishman, I will have to try out Frenchies!!
Thanks for the replies guys.
Steve.
Steve,

If you could work a deal with the guys, I'm sure you could buy what you need via the internet and have it delivered to their house for pickups.

The forum is pretty helpful, maybe they'll make you an offer.

If you were coming to Oklahoma, I'd be happy to have you ship it to my house.

Steve.

A good place for wood chunks in the area is Buchan Gas down on 49th St. N and 62nd Ave. N. They are only open Monday through Friday. There are no Cookshack dealers in the area except maybe a place called "All About Grills" on Starkey Road in Largo between Ulmerton Rd. and East Bay Dr.

It sounds like you might be leaving for Taiwan on the 20th so maybe we could hook up for dinner on the 19th.

Also, while you are at the Phillies stadium, make sure you try a cheesesteak sandwich from La Spadas. They are one of the in-house vendors at the stadium.

I sent you my cell phone #. Call me for anything else you need while you are in the area.

John
Guys, thanks so much. I've been in touch with Raider Bill, as well as Ribdog. I sure hope to have the chance to meet them both. Just want to say, it's so nice to have a forum like this, where so many good people take part helping one another in so many different ways.
Russ, I thank you leading the forum and giving it that flavor of people just helping one another in a really sincere, and genuine way.
Hope everyone is well.
Steve.
Hi Formosa-

I hope I am not to late to chime in, but, you mentioned you would be checking the forum daily. I just set up a new computer, and have been out of service while down.

In Tampa, on Kennedy Blvd. a few blocks west of Dale Mabry there is an "Outdoor Kitchen" store run by some nice guys that is interesting to browse in.

A block or so down from them is "Jimbo's BBQ". This is an old Tampa institution. Their BBQ sauce is super, and Que is exellent and authentic.

You might consider a trip to "LeRoy Selmon's" BBQ restaurant near the International Shopping Plaza. Good ribs and accepable prices. Smokin knows LeRoy who is from Oklahoma and played for the Bucs in their early years. Pulled pork is good here with the Oklahoma hot BBQ sauce.

On Dale Mabry, not far from Kennedy Blvd is Flemings BBQ. Sort of in between the others in quality and taste.

There are a lot of small BBQ places sprinkled around Tampa, but, the few above are worth a try.

Hope your stay in the Bay area is a good one!
