Bought my FEC100 roughly a year ago, and I have had recurring temp problems. Basically, at startup, sometimes the auger and fan would crank at full blast long after the smoker came up to temp. The FEC thermometer would show temps that were as much as 100 degrees over the programmed temp, and yet the auger would keep spitting pellets into the firebox at full pace with the fan spinning on max. A reset or two would fix it, but the problem would return again a smoke or two later.
Bill from Cookshack's customer service was very helpful, although it took a while to come up with a solution that worked. Most recently, he sent me a new control unit. Since installing it, the problem has not returned. I have had 3-4 smokes that went well.
There are still a couple of other quirks with the system, but nothing I can't live with. Thanks to Bill and to Cookshack for (knock on wood) what appears to be a successful resolution of the problem.
