They are a 3rd party item and can be purchased from a variety of sources. A quick search will reveal many of the users' opinions.

Do a Google search on "digital meat thermometers." They sell them at Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc. Several BBQ shops on the net sell them; the BBQ store, and Everything Home and many other places.

I went to sharper Image in the mall near my house they have a great one. The first thing I used it for was a 3 pound London Broil. Worked like a charm! If there is no store near you go on-line and you'll be able to get one real quick.

Mike, I also just purchased a Maverick ET-73. Has a wireless unit included which you can walk around with or put inside while you're smoking. Tells you food temp as well as smoker temp. Worth the investment. It was $50 or $60. Picked mine up at a BBQ Galore. Not sure if you have those stores out east. Good luck!
Bought mine at the gadget source.com for $47.00 including shipping. This was the mose economical that I could find..Got deliver in five days here to the U.P. of Michigan.

look for a taylor tru-temp remote thermo.
cost here was 16.99
they work well and last
this is my 4th one
i use one down the spout of the sm
one is for fec pit temp
2 are for meat (after my reefer and freezer are at the right temps)
i had a maverick but lost it in my infamous chicken fire in my fec.
both units work well and i can highly recommend each of them

IMO Thermoworks makes the best quality thermo equipment at a "reasonable" price. I use the quick read Thermopen for testing and one of their probe units for cooking. They are due to come out with a remote over the next few months. Link is-

This is a Maverick dual probe so you can monitor 2 meats at the same time ie: ribs, butt or butt and chicken, you get the idea. Anyway it's 38.95 with a buck for shipping..
