Temperature control knob

Just got new s 55 and noticed that the temperature control knob cliks at about 150-180 degrees. Is this the point where it is on or is it on at lower temps and just makes this click at the higher temps? When I rotate the knob back to lower temps it clicks off (I assume). Any suggestions?

When you rotate the control knob clockwise it clicks on and when you rotate it counter clockwise it clicks off. The click tells you that the contacts in the thermostat have either completed of broken the current flow.

used to live in st. louis west county. I noticed as the unit cools the click is closer to the off position (just under 100 degrees). But if I smoke something and wanted to turn down the temp to about 150 it would clcik off at a temp above that.
