Joe,

I was just at Cookshack on Friday for Eddy and Paul's class. They don't have them yet. I was
hoping that someone might know of some probes that are currently available that would be compatible with the FEC 100.

If I don't get any responses I'll call Tony. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hi Ya, New recruit here.
I just got my new FEC-100 on Wednsday & did alot of chatting with Terri Gordon "Johns Assistant" & got the scoop about the probe from her. What she said was that they were shipping the new FEC-100's without the probes for right now & were still doing Reaserch & developement on the best way to implement the probe on the new FEC-100's, & she said that it would be something that us new FEC-100 IQ3 owners would be able to retro fit to our new units.

After recieving my new unit & calling Tony <--(the technical support guy),he said that they were right now trying to decide wheather to make 1. The probe go thru the crack of the door when opened 2.Making an access hole on the controller side of the unit or 3. Extending the cord on the optional probe & letting it wrap around the unit to go into the exhaust.
He also said that us new FEC-100 owners would have get a new board for our units as the units shipping right now do not have the probe option programmed into the board.

I can tell you right now my impressions with this new unit are extreamely good, I did a couple butts on it last Fri night / sat mourning & they turned out great & the family gobbled it up. It ran flawlessly through the entire 14 Hour cook Big Grin
PeaceChief,

Thanks for your reply.

Does your FEC 100 have the probe port? The ones that I saw on Friday did but they did not have the probes. Stuart mentioned that they would be running the probe wires through the crack in the door. I know the FEC 100 has a pretty tight seal when the door is closed. I don't know whether this would cause a problem with the probe wires or not. Stuart did mention the name of a brand that was compatible with the FEC 100 but I can't remember it. I'll call back and post results early next week.

I ordered the unit from John. The probe option was $200. I'm thinking for that price they should include the probe.

Congratulations on the FEC 100! Looking forward to hearing more about your cooks.
Dallas,

Not sure about the Probe port, looks like a button/cap in place where it would go for easy retro fit in the furtue.

As far as the wire going through the crack in the door, it should be fine as long as the plug end will fit through the crack when the door is open. I have 2 taylor temp/probes that are going into food from the top of the door opening & they don't cause any problems when the door is closed, "gasket seems to kinda seal around the wires.

How long till ETA on you unit?
Send us a tell how the probe works when you get your unit if ya dont mind.
Now that the IQ3 controller is available they have a little bit of a backlog. I was told to expect about two weeks which puts me right around Christmas! Smiler Stuart said that the backlog should be made up by Jan 1 and units should ship within 1 day of order after that.

I'll definitely pass on any information regarding the meat probe.
