So, my FEC 100 arrived today! And it managed to survive any damage, except for my poor pellets. nearly all of the bags had holes. But, I can handle that. Smiler

However, the freight carrier was less than stellar. Had to call them several times, and they didn't even make their delivery time that they confirmed with me. But that is a minor gripe compared to what could have happened, I suppose!

Now, just gotta find an extra pair of hands to help me take it off the crate. . .

Can't wait to hear your impressions and get a few pics.

Oh yeah! Thankfully the weekend is nearly upon us. And I get paid tomorrow. Hmm, haven't done any ribs in awhile, probably do that as my maiden run.

I don't suppose you took any pictures of how it arrived and how it was packed?

I did take pics! However, probably not as many as I could have while it was still packaged.

I have large and small images, most people will want to view the small images; you can view them here.

The manual didn't say anything about seasoning it with meat!

Heh, i've read quite a bit of the forum, but as far as the seasoning part goes; no one has really gone into specifics. They just say to cook a fatty meat in it first. Well, on my old offset, I had to rub it down with oil/grease to season it well. Am I correct to assume the same thing with the FEC?
Found this in the Forums ...

Season them tonight, just fill with pellets and run for some hours, then you'll be ready to go to work.

Butts. Easy, lots of flavor and take little work in the FE.

Do butts on Saturday for seasoning, ribs or your favorite on Sunday.

Well, several of you have said to fire it up now, before the weekend. Which I have. Did that the first day I got it. Today, (the 2nd day), I put it on a lower temp to burn for several hours. And Saturday, I'll cook a Butt or Burgers(?), before the Ribs.

Is this a good/adequate way of seasoning?

I just remove the nails in the cross board holding it steady on the pallet. Take the cross board out and roll the smoker off. You will probably have to pick up the boxes of rub and sauce and the bags of pellets that are on the pallet underneath the FEC before rolling it off.

Enjoy!

Yeah, thats pretty much all I had to do. I could have done it myself, but I was able to be patient enough for an extra pair of hands. Just lift the unit up on one side, take a few steps back. Set it down, go to the other side, lift it up and push forward until you cleared the crate, then set that end down. Easy.

Watch out for pellets or other fragments that can stop the wheels. One of the bags under the cooker ripped open so a fair amount of pellets were on the bottom that I had to clean/sweep up before moving the cooker.
