I 'thought' they were dependable Frowner

Had one crap out on me this weekend in my contest. I think somehow it got moisture in the thermocouple, although the fact we had 5" of rain and I did all I could to keep the EZ Up from blowing away in the 40 mile an hour winds at 2am MIGHT have something to do with it.

I'm going to test it this week.

Other than that, I'll buy another one, even if it's pricey, because of the fast read.

I use it for competition, but for home use, you could get away with a good regular one if the price is scaring you off.
I like mine because I can check the placement of my remote probe very quickly if I'm not believing the reading. Also, when you have several pieces cooking, like the butts I did Saturday, it's easy to check the ones without the probe to see how they compare.

I'm sure I'm not the only one to have tried other "quick-reads." As far as I'm concerned, they can't compare to the Thermapen. Get the one with the tiny tip. Never had any trouble with mine.
