What kind of thermometers do FEC 100 users like the best. And does any of them last forever.

I have 2 digital temp probes and monitors from Lowes. I think they died this week. Have used them about a dozen times. This time temp was 30 degres off from the instant read I like to double check with.
What are good ones that I can get that I don't have to open the smoker to read the temp? And has anyone used any of the wireless ones?

We use the digtal readout and commercial smokehouse probes from the folks at Thermapen. We run the wires through the smoke outlet. They run about $135 each with the readout and probe. We have four of them, use one to monitor inside temps of the FE, and use the other three to monitor internal temps on meat. We have built a little rack that sits on top of the FE where we line them up.
Most of the boxstores in Lexington will carry some.

You might try the search,at the top of this page.

They are all discussed at length, with prices and sources.

Target ,and others carry Taylors, for about $15 .

Bed,Bath,Beyond carry Pyrex,for the same.

Grainger has lifetime replacement on theirs.

Our team uses Maverick wireless, and all the above, and Thermapen instareads.

Usually, when they go bad, it's either 1)the wires get crimped or 2)moisture gets insides the probe.

You can actually boil the probe in oil, say 300 or so and shake it a few times. The oil replaces the water.

Then seal off the probe with high temp shrink tubing.

Just a cheaper alternative until you find new ones.
