Yes, just let it go an monitor it. It's a small fire pot and it will take time.
It also varies with the BTU & Brand of pellets.
For the first time, I'd just watch it, let it go BUT be careful. When you set a high temp, say 300, it does tend to overshoot. Read my recent post about this. The smoker is trying to get there, dumping pellets to create the heat and WILL overshoot.
As it nears 300, open the door, dump some heat and it will settle in.
Don't walk away from the smoker very long the first couple of cooks. You want to watch, make sure the fire stays lit (bad fan, or bad ignitor if it doesn't) eventually you'll know how it works and you'll be fine.
