Use of NU-701 Thermometer w/ Smokette

I just got the Cookshack Smokette II, and I'm going to use it for the first time later today.

I also have the NU-Temp NU701 Meat Thermometer.

My question is whether closing the door to the Smokette on the probe wire will damage the wire or the Smokette door in any way.

Or, is there another way I should be running the wire from the probe inside the Smokette to the remote unit outside the Smokette.

I thread the probe and wire through the top vent hole but I have found that the thermometer works better and lasts longer when I keep the display part away from the smoke and moisture coming out of the vent hole.

I think the hole in the top is the way to go. You might even want to unplug the main temp unit from the prob if you are using your Smokette outdoors. I recently read a post from one of the other forum members about using a similar unit outside in the cold. He had better results when he unpluged the probe and brought the main unit back and forth to check the meat.

That's the best way I found to do it. If I left the thermometer outside for to long it started acting funny in the cold.

I own the Nu Temp 701 also. Run the probe out of the top. It works great that way. Another great feature is the remote sensor. You will enjoy the freedom of not going back and forth to check the temp. Ain't technology great!!!!
