Are any of you experienced with sealers? I have been using a cheap Black and Decker and it works ok as long as I freeze the product before sealing it. I have not read any thing good about the FoodSaver brands. Cabela offers what appears to be a good one but rather expensive...but some times more expensive the better.

Amy,
I have FoodSaver which I bought becasue of the lower price. It works fine. But it also says to partially freeze meat and wet foods.Otherwise those juices get sucked into the appliance.
I partially freeze and still put a piece of paper towel on the end of the food.Even ice crystals get sucked in.
I runa second seam when sealing as suggested by Smokin'
Ive got both Foodsaver and Sinbo, both bought off of eBay. I prefer using the Foodsaver but with the Sinbo's snorkel, I can control the amount of vacumn I put in each bag if I want. And I feel the Foodsaver works best for long term sealing and freezing. I have had some bags sealed for over a year now.

Amy, I have been using food saver for years & it works great. It does work much better if you pre-freeze on a tray & then vacuum pack. we individually saran wrap our meat then freeze in large bags. we have a V840 model which is a few years old that works great on everything, including bread ,rolls, vegetables. They're fairly cheap when they are for sale @ Target.

Another vote for Foodsaver - I also have the V840, couple years old but works like a champ. I use it a lot. I keep my brown sugar in one of their canisters and it never dries out. Keeps cheese from molding too - sometimes I get a bargain on a large chunk of cheese, I just cut it into pieces and vac-pac. I've had Swiss last over a year with this treatment.
