Hello Everyone,
I have had my smokette for almost a year now and I have had lots of luck with Pork Spareribs,Baby Back Ribs, and Chicken also.
While I was at work today I overheard a few of the guys talking about their success in the "deer woods" this year.
Now, Im not a deer hunter by any means and I guess it was amusing to them when I turned and ask them.."How do you like the ribs"...they were talking all about the loin and the ham and the steaks and the chili they make but I didn't hear anything about the ribs.???
They very plainly said,"We throw them away...they're not any good."
Now, I have always been lead to believe that BBQ is the best way to turn a hunk of unwanted meat into something that is to be savored with a fine pilsner...ha ha
So, does anyone out there have any idea if Deer Ribs would work in a smokette????
Has anyone out there ever tried Deer Ribs in their CS???
.....(is there anyone out there??)

P.S. I am going to search the forum , I just wanted to post this because it may turn into a discussion.......thanks

Back in the ol' stompin'grounds of Ky, deer are about as plentiful as cowbirds now.

Little son got two with one shot last year and you can get your limit just drivin' your pickup to the package store. Big Grin

Other than about one night's grillin' and maybe a roast in the Dutch oven, they all jerky up what they can and grind the rest with some hog for sausage.

Be interested to hear your results.

I s'pose you can cook any kinda ribs.

When Preston,Sausageman ,and I were at Grant this year, alligator ribs won the Anything But contest. Eeker
Actually, I did do a search and found the 20+ post on Venison.
Unfortunately, there wasn't anything about deer ribs.
Sounds like its time for another experiment.
Dont worry, I'll keep good notes and then post the results...(maybe this time I'll take some pictures....always liked the post that had pictures with them) Hey Smokin!! can you attatch pictures if I send them to ya?????

Memphis-n-May..lol
If your Venison Ribs have fat, they'll smoke up nice. If they are lean, forget it. Not worth it. Best use? Stock. Roast those babies dry until they are stringy. Then, deglaze the pan with a lot of water or beef broth, an onion WITH skin, and some carrots. Cover and roast somemore. Strain and there ya got some killer broth.
