Hi Folks ~
Can anyone give me the rundown on venting my Smokette using the top vent hole? I thought I read something about PVC. In calling the folks at Cookshack, I was told not to directly pipe into the opening.

The smoker sits next to a vent hood but it sits over the bottom of the hood...so I must cut a hole thru the side of the hood. My plan was to run PVC up ab out 6" and elbow back to the hood about 20" Is that do-able?

Thanks

Topchef

In SmokinOkie's never ending quest to teach everyone about the new and wonderful features here at the Cookshack forum, here's my answer:

I know there are 100's of messages and there's no way to read them all (but I do). One feature we added with this new forum is the ability to search. Did you do this?

The reason I ask, is that when I did a search, there are current 7 (yours is one) message threads. I do believe there is a lot of information to help you get started with the subject of vents.

If after searching and reading the posts you still have some questions, just come on back and ask.

What we are trying to do is "minimize" the repeats on questions (yes, this IS impossible, but I'm the one doing a lot of the answering, so it helps me out).

The preceding was a non-paid non-political response... go easy on me and don't flame me

I would also try to keep your elbows to a bare minimum - like none at all if possible.

Elbows cause pressure drops. Granted, you are not taling about a lot of flow, but if it does choke off, where is the smoke going to go?

Just a thought.

Hi,Topchef.I agree with AAHH about that 45,but you probably know more about commercial vent hoods than I do.When we install a commercial through the roof we usually use a 60 to hold down blower noise and stop drip down onto the cooktop.I'm sure they make 60 in pvc. If you have yours on low you are probably pulling over 1000 cfm so it will probably always flow freely.Good luck and let me know how it works.I might be able to steal your mods.LOL
