I've about decided on a Foodsaver Vac sealer but I have no idea which one to buy. I see a #2840 on the net for around $150. Is this a good one? Do you know of a better choice? TIA...Bob
Bob, it depends on how much you plan on sealing at a time. Some of them have a heavy duty sealing strip that allows over 50 consecutive seals. I have the ProIII which is a little price. The Game Saver Pro is around $180 and has the heavy duty strip. I had some seal problems with mine and the Foodsaver support was excellent.
I have FoodSaver V2440. Got it from Walmart. Pulled pork heats up real good, spary a little apple juice before sealing. Bags are great in the microwave, but had one break open in a pan of boiling water. The V2840 is a newer model improved features of the 2440, looks cool even folds up.
We to have the 2240, and it is great for pulled pork. We just put the frozen package into boiling water for 10 minutes and it taste just as good if not better than the day of the smoke.
I have the V2860 and am happy with the results. It has an automatic sealing setting as well as pulse mode which allows me to manually suck out air and seal it myself if I want to.
The bags for these darn things are a bit pricey though. I found some on ebay that are about half the cost and the feedback ratings/comments are excellent so I might give them a try.
I still freeze some things in regular freezer bags since most things dont stay in there very long anyway. It works real well for my scratch made baked beans. Once froze, their nice little bricks that are easily boiled.
I bought me a Game Saver Pro at Bass Pro Shop yesterday. $179 plus tax. I tried it out today, sealed some pork butt. I think I'm going to like it. Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it...Bob
