was making some ribs the other day (came out great with help of forun and aluminum) during cooking had a puff of smoke that sounded like a cannon went off. food came out great but the shooting cannon? strange.
I would make sure it still works in case some fluids did't come in contact with the electric if that is possible.May have been little fire in the smoke box I had that happen in my 55.
That's the first I recall anyone mentioning a bang coming out of their smoker... but now I recall when my smokette was new I thought I heard a loud bang coming from the garage on a couple of occasions (where she resides)... sounded like the door blew off or something, but upon inspection didn't find anything amiss... haven't had that happen in over a year. Oh well... the Q is still good!
I have had it happen early on which was supposedly normal based on the response I got on the forum. It has happened every once in a while since. Makes the kids, wife and cats jump. There was a suggestion that hickory may do it because of something in the bark or moisture content. I don't remember but I have had no problems with my smokette after any of the "big bangs".
Maybe it is just the wood poping and that would be normal. I know I have seen sparks fly when the wood pops in a fire. Magin this being in a close chamber.
I to have the same thing happenen to me. I got my smokett model 008 back in June. The first time I Heard it I was smoking a 10lb, brisket with 4 oz of hickory. it sounded to me like it was release of pressure that was building up. It usual happens about 30 minutes after I start it up then it is fine after that. Butt it does not happen every time I smoke. Does not effect the results , Iam wondering if this is normal during the breaking in process?
