This is what I have been asking for a while now. Like I know anything about Marine batteries or inverters. I don't understand how it's hard for those who have these items and who have been using them without problems to say I have a Deep cycle marine battery xxxx make, xxxx model, bought it xxxxx here, cost me xxxxx. I also use inverter xxxxx, model xxxxx, xxxx price, I bough it at xxxxx, for $xxxxx
Here's some technical input when deciding;
1. The electric heating element won't care either way. It won't be damaged by either wave form AC power.

2. The electronics in the smoker are DC. That means the AC power applied to the smoker is sent to a DC power supply that the circuitry runs off of. So, the only thing in the electronics that would be damaged by the type of AC voltage applied would be the power supply. Most power supplies use a transformer to step down the voltage. They like a clean sine wave. They will run just fine on modified, but you will most likely hear the transformer hum louder than with a pure sine wave power source. Because of that, I'd lean towards the clean sine waved power source if the smoker is run often this way. If it's run occasionally, it won't matter. If it's run regularly then it might matter. Depends on how strongly built the power supply transformer is.

I gotta say, what's the deal with that post, to be honest it's pretty accusatory and defensive? Oh, and if you don't know about them, ask for help, there's some amazing people in the forum, if you approach them right.

Not sure you directed that at this forum, but I couldn't find a post by you about inverters, so it's easy, just ASK.

Have you bothered to look or click on "find"?

There's a number of posts with details (such as Sam's inverters or Sam's Deep Cycle, and I've posted the details about my Triplite inverter Charger and batteries).

You post wasn't in the normal spirit of this forum, but I'll give you the benefit of a doubt, it's hard to read "tone" in a posting. Read this as my tone is helpful, trying to understand your issue and with whom.

But I'll help a little. Here's a search on "inverter" in the FE forums. Have a read.

Also, I specifically spent about $325 on a TrippLite Inverter Charger (that was 6 years ago) and about $150 for two deep cycle (I got the most amps I could so they'd last longer). If you do find the original posts you'll see why I recommend getting an dual Inverter/Charger.

As for Sine Wave, I'll let the electronic's geeks talk about that one, but I've run two FE's for 6 contest years on mine (non-Sine wave) and had zero electrical issues.

Search in FE Forums only for "Inverter"

This is the exact model I have:

Any MORE questions?

I can't disagree with the folks that actually know electronics, which I surely don't-but just anecdotally,

I'll toss this in.

We also bought the Sam's $50 marine batteries, and the cheaper $30 invertors.

Many of us bought more expensive ones, because we equated money with application.

We all had to return them.

WE have run three different series of FECs for about the same as Smokin'.

Ours run for 24 hrs at contests, and we have yet to have a problem.

Here in Fl,it is like an FEC convention and we all have the same stories.

We also cook the whole southeast, and seem to get the same.

I'm sure it is not the best solution, and we will have problems-someday.

Just my anecdote.
Good question.

For me, it's one less thing to manager. I have one, but why waste the gas when it's there and paid for? I have a kipor, and although it's quite, it's not without it's own issues. Monitor the fuel, monitor the unit while it is running.

But, what if it fails (like mine had the battery die and wouldn't start).

The P/I solution is simple and I've had zero issues with it. I pull in, plug into the electricity and it automatically recharges the battery as well as cut over if there is a power drop.

Plus, they are quiet. I have a Honda EU2000i with an extended run 6 gallon gas tank, too. That way, I am covered at all bases.

Can you elaborate on the "extended run 6 gal. gas tank". How is that set up and did you get it from the Honda dealer?
