I am new to the Cookshack preduct line and to smoking in general. I am going to purchase either the Smokette or the larger series 50 and am looking for advice as to which one will fit my needs. I am leaning towards the series 50 just because of it's larger size

My wife of 40 years and I live alone. All our children and grown and gone. We entertain periodically with 5 - 15 guests per event, a mixture of children and adults.

Other than the entertainment, I need to smoke only for the two of us.

How many chickens, ribs, butts, etc does each size hold? How much food do I need for 15 - 20 people? Someone help me out!

I appreciate your help.

Sincerely,

Woodworker

most people would say get the 50 -- I have a smokette, and have wished I had a 50 on many occasions.

But ... if you'll only cook for about 15 max every so often, the smokette would probably do fine. You can get 2 or 3 brisket flats in at once (20 lb) or 4 to 6 pork butts (25-30 lb) or several racks of ribs or several chickens. the trick is to cook some items in advance (chill and reheat, such as the ribs, pulled pork, brisket), and some ready for the party. that way, you can put out enough for groups of 30, 40, or many more...
Woodworker:

I am a fairly new Smokette owner and I already wish I had purchased the larger series. You can fit a lot in the Smokette (and in fact smokers may work better when somewhat full) but you can fit way more in a 50 and probably see what you are doing better as well.
I have been reading the forum for a few months and no one has lamented that they "wish they would have bought a smaller one".
If you do buy a Smokette I would definitely recommend their stand or something to raise it up. I bought a 48"x24" industrial cart so I can store wood on the bottom and have some work space next to the unit and see inside without bending over. I keep it in the garage and wheel it outside to use it.
Good luck either way.

I sent a picture to Smokin' so he can post it.One thing to make sure of is that if you get a cart with a lip on the top to make sure the door clears it.
I notice from the picture that my garage is sure a mess. Winter in the Midwest. Ugh
