Hey folks. I have a $300 vacuum sealer, that just doesn't measure up.I am sealing smoked salmon and jerky and selling lots. Any suggestions on a good brand, Berkel, Anvil etc... will be appreciated. Thanks.

I've got a Sinbo. It's not perfect, but it does a great job for the price. With all sealers the cost of bags down the road is the real expense. The Sinbo uses a less expensive bag and there a a bunch of different types and sizes from which to choose. Custom printed mylar bags too. Check out the site carefully because it's not laid out the best.

Why use such an expensice vacumn sealer? Had a top of the line- bags expensive and you had to cut them open. Found thru TV infomercial Reynolds handi vac but Walmart etc. are all carring them same price. bags are quart(14 bags) and gallon sized 9 bags) in the $3.00 range per box. What I like is I can open the bag-zip lock- take what I need and then re-seal. If I'm freezing fish I freeze first then seal. Great for cheese & perfect for left over smoked meat.

You may have to have a HACCP plan to sell bbq in shrink bags. USDA regulations.
The worry is for botulism.
We sell ours in ziplock bags or plastic trays with snap on lids.
Of course if you live a mile out of Mount Robson, British Columbia, Canada, you can tell the USDA to stick it where the sun don't shine.

We have a floor model Koch with a double seal bars for the meat shop.I have had it 4 years now with notheing but regular upkeep but no real problems. Good unit and good customer service. The unit we have is a Bosch motor other come with a lesser known brand. We paid $7500 new.
