My local Wal Mart has some bags of whisky barrell chips and they advertise them for grilling or smoking. They look more like shavings as they are very small and very thin. Will they work in my 008 smoker? Can I just put them into the wood chamber or should I place them on some foil before putting them into the wood chamber? The bag says to soak them before putting onto the grill and I do know that is a "no no" for my cookshack. As always I do appreciate any help you might have.

You can place them on foil in the woodbox if you want, just to contain them and make cleanup easier, but I wouldn't worry with making a pouch for them. They will work well in your Smokette, but will burn up fairly fast. Start out with a cold smoker and cold meat and they should last long enough if you use enough. If you preheat and burn off dirty smoke, just use more to start with. On long cooks, wear welder's gloves and refill the woodbox...depending on the level of smoke you like.
