I have a fec100 and would like to do a whole hog this spring but like most don't have enough smoker to handle it. While i wouldn't trade my fec for anything i have searched for an alternative solution for an occasional whole hog experience without breaking the bank. i came across a La Caja China cooker that looks like it might do the trick. has anyone used one of them and if so what were the results?

I don't have a Caja China, but a good friend of mine in Miami does. I went to a party at his home a couple years ago when he did a whole hog, and it was outstanding. The meat was succulent, and the skin was perfectly crisp.

I was hyped up to get one when my wife gently reminded me that I probably had too many toys, cooking or otherwise. She was right, and I didn't.

I also came to the realization that I would only use it once or twice a year, so it would be just one more item taking up storage space.
thanks for the info dls. my wife agrees with yours but i might add one to my toy collection anyway. I smoked a whole hog several years ago in a treager pellet grill for a family reunion. While my FEC has produced the best food imaginable and always receives rave reviews. The one cookout that everyone remembers is the whole hog Luau. there is just something about the site of it that people never forget.
The wife will be upset for a few days but after the whole hog cookout she will admit i was right.
