Wood from a Maple tree in my backyard?

I had to cut down a maple tree in my backyard. Does any maple tree work for smoking wood or do I have avoid certain types of maple trees?

This is the one that makes those lovely little propellers that fill my gutters.

I could have maple wood for a loooooooong time.
