Wood sizes

Okay feeling really stupid here, but am at my wits end. I have been trying to split up some of the wood pieces I have, up into smaller pieces (1oz chunks is my aim), but I haven't had any luck. I have tried a wood chisel, a skill saw, a roto zip and a hack saw. There has got to be an easier to get the 1oz pieces that I am trying for.

A hatchet works well, or even a meat cleaver.

A miter saw works well. Also a nice sharp lightweight hatchet.
