For your needs then I'd say 50 lbs works fine. However, they are two different cookers with one being fired electrically and the other being wood fired. I believe I read somewhere Smokin has both and would lean towards the FEC cause of a slightly more authentic wood flavoring. He'd need to verify that as I could have been having a barbecue nightmare that night.
Well Max, I'd disagree.

Money NOT being an issue, I'd go for the FE over the AQ any day. I like the dryer environment and 100% wood fire. On my tests there's a big difference.

However,

There IS a price difference.

bigman, they're basically two different methods as Pags says.

Here's a thread a little farther down on the page with more details:

I love my AmeriQue and since I don't do any comps any more, would NOT change.

I love the easy convenience of starting it up and forgetting it till it is ready!1

I have done all the stick burners and all the other smokers, done the commerciall catering and the comps, now it is time to relax!

No fires in the firebox, flame ups, ramp not working, fans not blowing etc. etc. etc... at this stage of my life I am looking for great tasting Q that is EASY and relaxing!

Just my opinion, not trying to offend anyone. Big Grin

I've never cooked on an Amerique so I'll concede to your evaluation

Just trying to get a rise out of your Chris... not.

I love the fact you like the electric model version, absolutely NOTHING wrong with that.

I just like the dryer environment of the FE.

Neither is a bad choice and for most cooks, I think the AQ is a better choice (less muss less fuss)
