Has anyone given any thought about which carriers they will use? USPS, UPS, Fed Ex? Remember that if your recipient has a PO box for an address you will need to use USPS. UPS and Fed Ex will not deliver to a PO box.
I for one will use Fed Ex, because the contents of my box contain an item not "suitable" for USPS transport.

Go into shock. Smokin's getting his Saturday.
From Cali? No way. Did you overnight it?
Pags...ya ain't putting much effort into it. I'm still working on what to put into my box, oh well!
I probably will not be able to send mine until the 20th,waiting on a shipment to come in from a local guy. It will be worth the wait. Including some shirts, guessing at the sizes.

Me too. I feel such PRESSURE about what to put in. Not like I know that much about BBQ. How do I put that in a box? LOL
In the future, maybe I'll just put food in there... But for now it's rubs and sauces...

Me to Cal. I am making my sauces and rubs today and tomorrow and UPS'ing them Monday. I to feel the pressure Smokin and sure hope my recipient likes it. It worries me to have a pic of mine posted!!!????
Who ever got me, don't sweat too much over it. I'm new to this game and will be easy to please. I have the CS rubs and a couple of local products? If sending a shirt(certainly not required), size XL.
I'm puttin one of everything I have on hand + gathered up as much local stuff as I could. Should be a great sample box for someone. I'll mail it today.
I've to to mix up a fresh batch of rubs this weekend, so mine will probably go out on Monday.
Yeah, I'm dealing with a case of remorse. I was sending my favorite two rubs and sauces...but dang, it's like trying to ship your kids. Hard to give up something you love.

If anyone knows me, they know I move quickly. I just got so interested in this that I started the first day a couple folks showed some interest. Collected 2 of my already made up rubs, went online and ordered the Rib Tickler rub. With 15 bottles of sauce in the cupboard, I still went to the store and bought the mustard sauce. Kinda risky though since I hadn't tried it...looked interesting. But with a bottle of a regional sauce already selected, I didn't want another flavor from the same company so as to offer another supplier. Actually, made a couple changes along the way.
I shipped it Priority Mail Flat Rate Shipping-USPS, which claims 2 day delivery. Shipped the day I got my recipient's address.
I shipped it before my wife even got home from work. When she got home, I said, "Guess who I got in the sauce/rub exchange!" She said, "Who?" I said, "Smokin." She had a good laugh, "Pressure's on!"
Actually, when you stop to think about it. Pressure's got to be on Smokin, also. People would expect only top notch from him.

Now, that's funny.
Joe M, Paging Joe M! You have a message in your inbox. Please respond. Thanks!

Pags - Good thing you got an early jump on things. I recently shipped a small package by the same method to my daughter at college ~ 200 miles away. She received it yesterday - 17 days later. Their tracking system couldn't even identify the tracking number on the receipt given to me. You may want to check on yours.
Good luck.
I ship a lot of stuff back to Chicago with USPS, and so far...good luck.

Gosh, thanks SO MUCH for that additional pressure...
Shoot Smokin', you got it goin' for ya. A chance for a package Sat...cook Sunday and if ya don't like it...well, ship Monday! Just think of it as repackaging last years Christmas present.
Regifting should be against the rules!
Haha! The Regift! It could be like gramma's fruit cake...Keep your California comments to yourself!
My Sauces and rub are almost ready to go. I just decided to make beef jerky to send (this will be the only made by me item in the box). I found an awesome recipe to use on this forum. The marinade tastes delicious so I am hoping that translates well into the meat, gonna give it 48 hrs for the cure and spices to do its magic. Should be mailing by Tuesday.

Cal-I know what you mean! I'm sending a brand new, full container of my most favorite rub. It almost hurts! But if it is new to the recipient, and they enjoy it, then the sacrifice was worth it.
Well Vicki, sorry to say that all my items were acquired by Cal, not home made, dang it...but hey, they have came from all parts of Mo,parts of Ks, and yes even in Oklahoma. I would say it's a fine Midwest representation , including all the little treasures(Junk)!
But in fairness, I doubt anyone is gonna get a box they are disappointed in, too much BBQ love being delivered and no one would have signed up if they didn't love BBQ, ya know!

I picked up one last item this morning. Still have to make a favorite rub or two. I am throwing in some wood chunks (in labeled bags) to fill up any open spots in the box, just in case the recipient may not have tried those types of wood.
CAL, I was just worried it wasn't enough home made. But everything else is representing NJ
Wee! I just finished packing my box. It took up a whole copying paper box, just don't seem right for only planning on two rubs and sauces. That is just like most of my plans work out, oh well.
I guess I'll give a hint on where it is going...NOT to Oklahoma!, heck that should cut it down to half the folks.
Now if Sonja will forward me my next months allowance, I can ship it...LOL!

Well I just finished my package. Nothing homemade but everything is local. And one item is brewed/made just a 1.5 miles from my house.
Cal, a copy paper box??? Hope it's coming to Illinois.
If anyone is looking for spice jars, I ordered some 8oz jars for 54 cents each with caps from usplastics.
Thanks. Ordered some rub and sauce containers. Wish I had the rub containers for the exchange.
Drove to town today and shipped my box of 3 rubs and a couple sauces. They barely fit into a medium flat rate box but after reading what some are sending I might have shortchanged my recipient. Sorry, I will be more creative next time.
Hey. I'd gladly receive your box. I think you're in the ball park. I did 3 rubs and 2 sauces also. Only additon was some smoked almonds.
My box is a little larger, but has filler paper in it. I only sent two rubs and sauces. I needed room for regifts, well sorta. It is amazing all the treasures that folks want to give a BBQ judge.
Just remembered, heck I put something in it from Arkansas.

Hey Cal, that can't be all bad. We do BBQ in Arkansas to!! :-)
Joe M. I would love a mustard sampler. I would love t ano pay for it and shipping of course. Does anyone on this exchange have paypal, the online banking/transfer svc. Its great because u can send money to anyone who has it anytime. if everyone loves their pdts and wants more from anyone, and all i.volved are willing to buy and ship, it might be worth it. Food for thought.....
I have actually been contemplating piching a trade forum to Smokin. "Hey, I got this and that for trade, looking for something from..."
That way it doesn't come across as selling.

I am guessing that is something u guys can work out the specifics on. Everyone would probably love to participate if they need stuff. i know that would probably be the only way to get great bbq sauces/rubs except for mail order from the manufacturers, which would be more exp. or am i on the wrong track....
I'm in.
Its one way to experience stuff from regions you may not be able to have access to. However, I noticed a lot of the sauce and rubs are sold online which defeats the purpose. A trade forum wouldn't cost anybody anything so I don't see any harm in giving it a try. One of my other sites (beer) we have a rating system so that if a member has several succesful trades you can see that before trading with them. I know this is off topic. But it's interesting.
I'm in to!! Now we need permission???
