Looking for other FE owners to post their contest experiences and success, but I don't see that many.

Come on, help a guy out. I see a few reports but I KNOW there are some great teams out there.

How are we going to know which contests are good ones and bad ones to go to without some help?

Rodney started this idea in a previous thread, as a way of building up our knowledge of which contests are good and which aren't so good.

Contests -- which are good and which aren't???

smokin,
our 3 must do contests are
1- minneola. the organizers are great!!! the city workers keep everything spotless and the town supports it. even though it is the fba's florida state championships it is very laid back and it is great fun to pass out trick or treat candy to the kids since it is around halloween time.
2-winter havenn "smoke on the water" contest. this was the 1st year for it but frank cosmos (hope i spelled his name right) did a great job. all sites were dead level, good power and water and the cleanest port a potties i've ever seen!!!!
money goes to the citrus county boys and girls club. even though we didnt do well there the site of the sunrise coming up over the lake was unreal and it was fun watching the ospreys feeding their young.
3- callahan. well organized and the callahan funeral home's nascar coffin was about unreal!! thought keith from seriously smoking was kidding me (heck it was 4am saturday morning) but when ya opened the lid it had crossed checkered flags with "the race is over" written below that!!! tom pippin does a great job with this one. our brisket got 9 to 9.5 from 5 of the six judges. judge 6 gave us across the boards 7's and i hope they choke on gristle Mad again this is a really nice contest
ok that's my good stuff and you can see even if we don't do well it doesn't affect how we feel.
now the one contest we will never ever return to under any circumstances.
plant city
1- at less than 8 hours into the contest the port a potties were over flowing
2- it was obvious to me the promoter could care less about anything than the money he took out.

i was hesitant to respond to this thread as if you remeber i got my head handed to me before on the fba vs kcbs thing and to be honest i just felt it was better to keep my mouth shut but these 3 contest we will always try to do even though it means we give up our weekly income at the farmers market just because the organizers and townfolk support them so well

i sure hope that i dont get a lot of flack on my response but it is an honest answer to your question and i hope it helps

Our team did Smokin on the Chesapeake two weeks ago. It was held two weeks ago in Westminster Maryland. Great prizes: 5k for Grand, 1k for first and $300 for second. They paid down to 10th place.

Our team, the Porkitects, took Reserve, 1st in Chicken, 2nd in ribs, 2nd in pork and 6th or 5th in brisket.

I wish we had more competitions around that paid that well.

It was a very small field of competitors.
