I went to the first event they had. It was fine and i seen nothing to complain about. I will be back again this year cooking in the OLN All Star BBQ Cookoff. This show will air starting in July. I will be cooking against Terry Black from St Louis ( Super Smokers). I don't know who the 3rd cook will be but I have a feeling it maybe Demo from AR.
Russ,

Bentonville is usually a who's who of competition cooks. The last two years, the contest had over 60 teams. I have nothing bad to say about this contest. There is usually plenty of space for everyone. They provide free power. I guess the one bad thing would be that the contest site doesn't drain well, so if it rains, be prepared. If you happen to hear your name, the money is great. They pay $150 for 6th - 10th place in each category and pay through five places overall. If you want a little extra excitement, there is a Friday night iron chef type category where you receive the "secret" ingredient about two hours before you have to turn-in. It adds a little fun on Friday night.

Hope this info is what you wanted to hear to get you to come. If so, see you all there!

My only worry is the no sponsor banner rule. I've got BBQr's Delight pasted all over my trailer. I suspect that the BBQr's Delight Cook Team on the nose will be okay. I'm going to call the organizer tomorrow and see if I need to bring enough white paper to cover my sides if unacceptable.
I didn't know they have a sponsor rule. my feelings about this is that cooking bbq is no differant then any other independant sport(golf, bowling, motorsports, cycling, bass fishing, etc) and it's very costly to get to these events. If the promoters can't recieve enough sposorship money from there sponsors to get an excusive to do their event such as the nfl, nhl ,nba and so on we shouldn't support those events! I see that they want to make all the money and do it on the back of everyday mom and pop. I can see a little restriction but to go beyond and say NO OTHER SPONSORS is a crock! If this is so then I'm glad I'm just cooking the ALL STAR show.
