Hey bud, I've been down this road. I've lost a pile of weight so I don't have to watch it anymore, but still shy away from the old favorites. Chinese buffet being #1 on the salt hit list. Big Grin

The only commercial rub I could find that promoted low salt was Art's rubs(several different flavors). There's a few here

Other than that all I can suggest is taking some of the home made rubs on this and other forums and lowering or leaving out all the salt. DO NOT use no-salt type products. They turn more bitter than they already are......to go along with the fact that they are made with stuff that's used in lethal injections. Eeker Eeker( potassium chloride)

Sorry I couldn't help more.
I really like Pappy's rubs.. they are out of Fresno, CA. I started buying their rub as stocked by Costco.. and it is high in NA.. While shopping at another large discount food store.. an outfit here in CA called FoodMax ( I don't know if it is elsewhere) they sell Pappy's in a low NA mixture and it is also very good IMO. I'm sure you can check it out in a Google and see if they have sources in your area.
Potassium Chloride is just another type of salt, potassium instead of sodium obviously, and is not at all lethal. It is healthier for you than sodium chloride. It should be noted that the human body will die if it does not get sodium and potassium from somewhere, and it will. Also, most of us get the chloride from tap water.

Just thought that needed clearing up. No offense intended.

Cool
Big question...WILL cause or HAS caused high blood pressure?

I ask because there are lots of ways to cut down salt, not just your BBQ.

I'm not sure how much BBQ rub actually gets on and what the % of salt is in the bite you eat, but probably not huge. And control the amount of rub you put on, cut it in 1/2 maybe?

If you don't have high blood pressure, I'd cut salt down in your other foods and save your salt portions for BBQ.

Buy Paul Kirk's book, Championship BBQ Sauces.

It will teach you everything you want to know about creating your own sauce.

There are also 10's of thousands of rubs out there, you can look at some, see what the ingredients are and start from one of those.
The way I understand the salt high blood pressure thing is like this. It's not the salt you add to food while cooking fresh food. It's the processed food that contain all the sodium.....

Look at canned soup and boxed breakfast meals, they are all loaded with sodium......So is fast food from the chain restaurants.

Like Smokin say's, you won't get that much salt from a rub, especially if you make a rub yourself. Don't eat fast food, or processed food and you'll be waaaay ahead of most people......

I only use Kosher salt, I don't use table salt anymore......too salty and it taste terrible!!!

good luck and have fun!!

now....where's my Norvasc?????

LOL!! Absolutely no offense taken. The cheering up part tickled me. I actually thought about removing it before I posted the response. Sounded too "greenie/healthnut". Big Grin

But, my doc wasn't high on the use of the stuff for high blood pressure.

My doc says that VERY FEW people are salt sensitive, and that blood pressure IS NOT adversely affected unless you are one of the VERY few.
Restricting salt is otherwise unnecessary.
Also, salt applied at the table is miniscule as compared to that in processed food.
Have you been tested for salt sensitivity?
Probably not.
Most doctors are too lazy to check since it is not their problem trying to stomach low sodium food.
Die earlier but happier is my approach.

Where there is salt there is........water. that is the problem with salt and BP. the salt itself is ok, it is just that the body has a lot of salt in it. and is therefore about 60% water in an adult. Ina nutshell, add more salt, retain more water. putting more fluid in a "same size package" makes the pressure in that package go up. unfortunately things aren't really this simple, but the underlying idea is.

Any suggestions are Welcome.

In any commercial rub I have looked at, salt is the primary ingredient. Make your own...Google is your friend. There are lots of recipes on the net for rubs & no doubt a number of links on this site. A little research should hook you up with something you can live with.
