Several suggestions for you:

You'll need to ignite the pellets in your smoke enhancer, using a propane torch. I founf wood chunks (sold by Cookshack) to be more effective.

Did you try SmokinOkie's 2 stage smoking suggestion? I'm not familiar with the Traeger controller but basically you want to run the FEC on low for 8 hrs. for maximum smoke output; followed by setting to a higher temp to finish the meat.

You may want to follow Andy's suggestion on the tube smoker. They work very well.
