I knew a couple guys at comps once that liked to play with mustard.

Some local folks feel that it helps rub stick.

Some folks like to mix apple juice and make a paste.

I've found that butts get wet on their own and you can pack lots of rub on them.

I have never heard of a reason that would make me do it,and the co-cook forbids it,but if you have a jar to get rid of,and you don't mind washing up one more time,I don't know that it hurts anything.

I guess it falls under whatever floats your boat.

Just my $0.02

Now that's funny right there...I don't care who ya are!! - Larry.

As for the mustard...I like to do it on my briskets. Will usually mix it up with some rub and horseradish and paste it on.

I don't tend to mustard butts - usually just brine and rub instead, but that is just personal preference...I'm like mlesser, but in the opposite - just the way I've always done it.
