6th contests of the year, July 1st and 2nd at Sapulpa OK, put on by the local elks.
Thought we were going to win, thoought we hit all four categories. Mrs. Smokin has the boxes down and we're getting great appearance scores (guess the meat looks good also).
1st in Chicken, got a great looking engraved bottle of 30 year old Bourbon for a trophy. That's two first in chicken in last two events. Used to me my worst category.
5th in Pork, 6th in Brisket.
Got 16th in Ribs because we figure it was a bad piece of meat. Had some good scores but we tasted them after and found some bad taste.
Well, that's the experience, for our first year, we're happy...but SOOOOOOOO close, if we'd placed 11th, we'd have a GC.
Holiday weekend kept it kind of small, but the regional big hitters were there. Head Country II, Twin Oaks, Ring of Fire, Lotta Bull and Buffalo.
Event was won by a new team, made up of the 15 year old daughter of Buffalo and the 16 year old son of Twin Oaks (Bart).
Small little event, they thought they would have 40 teams and only 25 showed. Nice people, try to take care of the cooks. Kids running golf carts asking if you need anything.
More later, including photos.
