I'm smoking Dakota (garlic) and Italian Sausage for dinner tonight. Used a couple chunks of hickory and hickory pellets since it's a relatively short smoke.

Noticed smoke coming from the Elite at 113*. I've got the element firmly touching the wood box, and I'm sure that has something to do with it.

Thought the early smoke was interesting.

Pags I really don't want to burst no bubble, BUT...I was warming up a half-pan of PB a couple weeks ago in my 020, without the wood box and mine had pretty blue smoke at 113*. I thought that was neat, my smoker is seasoned! YES!!!
Cal. Mine smokes on occasion without wood. Definitely a sign of a well seasoned smoker.

bubbasz1. On a real hot day. Don't turn on the smoker. Just open the door. Big Grin

When it's that hot here, you would be lucky to get a match to light let alone some pellets. We don't know what 104 degrees is unless the dew point is like 70.
That's to be expected. Small wood will ignite at a lower temp. Also note that the temp on the dial is not the same as the physical temp on the element, which was much hotter.

For low temp/cold smoking, pellets or sawdust will ignite better
