I'm down here in Florida for three months and the first place I always go to eat when I'm down here is my favorite BBQ place. I have loved the Q at this place for almost 20 years. I used to dream about their Q, I loved it so much.

I ate there a couple of nights ago and it was so disappointing. So very disappointing....

After just six months of CS ownership and with the help of the fine folks on this forum I now make Q that is so superior to my former favorite BBQ joint I may never go back there for a meal again.

I know others on the forum have said the same thing before, but I didn't believe it until I experienced it for myself.

Guess I'll try some other joints and see if they are any better...

Holy Hog BBQ on Armenia in Tampa. There is also a good place in Brandon called First Choice BBQ. While First Choice does not use FEs, they do turn out some good que.

Also, if you would you like to go to an old-style bbq, try Peebles in Auburndale. Their que has never been that memorable to me but they have been there a long time and remind me a lot of North Carolina style que. Plus, they cook over embers from burnt down logs.

Great. Thanks for the tips.

I am going to PigFest at the end of this month in Lakekand.
Hey SmokinMAINEiac

Spent all my life here in Georgia and have eaten at many a good Que restaraunt but the quality of the food coming from my Smokette has probably ended my patronage of most of them.

The support and recipes on the forum make it simple to make some outstanding table fare. Thanks to all who've contributed and continue to make this the ULTIMATE BBQ ADVICE FORUM.

The cookshack is simply amazing!
Interesting post OP. I'm in a little different situation. Having eating Q in Memphis, St Louis, Kansas City I was in search of something similar here in Motown. It was just recently (within 4-5 years) that Q joints started popping up. Problem is, most of them are lousy except for 1, and it always has huge lines out the door and is quite a ways from home.

So... That's how I found you folks! I had to find an alternative to driving 30 minutes for a Q-Fix. I am about to place an order for an AQ and, with everyone's great posts and receipes, I hope to be putting out what I remember from those great Q cities.

I think we're both talking about Slow's. Great Q, but the lines are insane. The last time I tried to eat lunch there, it was 2:30pm and a 1 1/2 hour wait during the week...

Slow's has good BBQ but man the wait and the service is horrifically slow. I can't help but think the place was named for it. Went to a place in Sterling Heights last winter called Red Hot and Blue that served pretty good Q and you could get in and out of there in a decent time. It was a hike from Dearborn but we got there and back from lunch faster than when we went to Slows for lunch which turned into an afternoon affair.
