I for one, think we should organize this and try to time our packages somewhat?

Anyone else want to help by doing jerky? Let's start out by getting a numbers count of people.

Any other thoughts from anyone?

Count me in Cal. I haven't perfected my jerky yet, but I know I can make some. Plus I will throw in some smoked almonds!

While I may not send Jerky, let me know of anything on your "list". Having been there, done that, we always had things we wanted but couldn't get.

So think BBQ. If you need rubs or whatever, let us know what's allowed and what isn't.

I haven't perfected my jerky yet but I have perfected Cuban cigars and can send you some of those since I've pretty much given them up.

Welcome to Qatar. I assume you're in Doha, or nearby. Not a bad deployment at all. Once you figure out how to cope with the scorching summer heat and accompanying dust/sand storms, it should be a good stay.

My few attempts with jerky have produced some pretty ragged results so I'll leave that to the experts. If you will provide some suggestions for BBQ items that are desirable, shippable, and allowable in the country, it would be helpful.

Never made jerky but I'm willing to learn. Or almonds, or whatever will withstand the trip.

There's tons of great info in the Jerky Forum and plenty of help here. Chaplain Bill is a great resource. The more the merrier!

Chaplin Bill I first want to thank you for your service to our country and especially God's work! My son spent time in Iraq and we sent him lots of goodies. Let us know what you need the worst and lots of us on here will see that it is sent. I know when monster cookies were sent to my son they were a big hit.

cal, please count me in. I will make jerky and almonds as well. I think about a weeks notice before shipping should give most of us enough time to make a decent amount of stuff!

Folks, your responses are encouraging. Jerky and almonds and any other shelf-stable items sound great. I have normal 'care packages' with confort items coming thru 'any soldier' channels, so probally not a lot of need for them. I'm trying to crack the military funding code for BBQs and such here at the chapel. Contractors do the cooking here, so they don't want anyone else drawing rations from the chowhall, a job security thing I guess which is desquised as 'food safety'. They do sell frozen meat at the PX, (all beef) But it is kinda expensive, but has a OK variety.

Thanks for the offer, but Please don't send any cuban cigars, they are forbidden due to the 'rules' here for deployed Soldiers. We have nearly 3K personnel running around, so what you send will not go to waste.

Will get up there next weekend and see if I can't get some made up...your problem now, how do you distribute our shipment to 3000 folks???? You can think on that one!

Please post a list of "allowable" items we can send with the jerky packages. I'm really looking forward to loading up the 120 and making a bunch of jerky for all of you in the line of fire or away from home.

Folks, I'll be watching for packages. As far as what else to send, I think we have plenty of hygene/everything else items coming in thru Any Soldier channels. We could use some coffee creamer, as it is Very Expensive at the PX, and not really avaliable elseware. Also, maybe some good cookies or any other snack items you think will make it this far.
