advise on beer can chicken

With a Cookshack, I couldn't see any point in using water. You have enough moisture inside the smoker as it is. In my opinion, if Mt dew is good for that, it would be the only thing it's good for.

You can use any liguid that you desire. I have done plenty of these some with beer, lemonade, pop, etc. My wife doesn't like beer either but when I did a chicken with beer she couldn't taste it at all and the chicken got devoured! By putting a can of beverage with some spices in it into the cavity of a chicken and standing it all up the breast is extremely moist. My family usually fights over the breast. Do yourself a favor and get one of the holders that hold a soda/beer can as it keeps everything from tipping over. Been there, Done that!

The skin will not crisp up like in a charcoal cooker. My 055 don't get that hot but the chicken still taste mighty fine.

I do mine on a grill and use a sweet drink such as peach or pineapple juice. It gives a sweet flavor to the meat and keeps it moist.

But if you don't want to do that, just stick it in the cookshack with a little wood and you are fixed up in a few hours with some great meat.

I agree with the fruit juice, and also that no extra liquid is required in these smokers. You should cook poultry as hot as the smoker will get and only use about 1 oz. wood, any kind except mesquite.
