I keep my FEC 100 pretty clean, as in no accumulated grease. I foil the bottom and the drip tray.

Again, this time when cooking ribs, a fire got started in the lower right corner of the unit. I caught it pretty quickly, shut off the unit and let the fire go out. Luckily the case of ribs I was cooking was not ruined; the gasket along the bottom of the door and on the right up about a foot and a half was destroyed though.

I always have about a cupful of unburned pellets after a cook but I do not believe that this is related to the fire. The pellets are not burned at all, apparently just the gasket....?

Is this happening to anyone else? What's causing it? Can anything be done to prevent it?

You need to determine the "fire" type.

Is it grease build up or just a pile of pellets catching fire. Sounds like from your description, it's not the pellets if they're still unburned.

Which version do you have?

IQ?
Straight auger or ramp?

the ONLY fire's I've seen have been grease buildup because of improper cleaning or the smoker wasn't level and the grease builds up in the tray (but it was from butts, not ribs)
Chris, get us some more information based on the above posts. I too have had a couple of fires and think that I've learned a bit from them. One of mine occurred when I was cooking at higher than typical smoking temps (300+).

Like Smok'n mentioned, you definitely need to check that your unit is level and that everything is draining properly.
